Hi All,
Looking to renovate an old family village house this year in Cyprus, but as I live in Australia will be absent a lot of the time. Has anyone been through this experience recently who may be able to give me some tips on best way to manage builders, tradesmen, govt depts, etc.
Is it better to ask in the villages where you can see examples of renovations and ask the locals, or go straight to Larnaca, Limassol etc and employ an architect to look after the lot.
Any advice to help me avoid the pitfalls would be greatly appreciated. I am afraid of employing someone's Mother's Uncle's Cousin because he is a nice bloke and then finding out he can't build!!
Cheers. Sean

| Hi mia pitta mixed, Thanks for reply, article was very interesting. They must pay salespeople a lot in Norfolk. Buy property for 30,000 then spend 120,000? Mind you still better than a modern box. Govt website wasn't so helpful, not one link worked. Appreciate your reply, I will look at it as an adventure and see how things unfold. Anyway it is a great excuse for a holiday in Cyprus. If anyone else is renovating at moment in Cyprus would love to hear of your experiences. Thanks again Mia. Sean

| Hi Sean Great to hear you'll be renovating your family home. If you're not going to be in Cyprus to manage the whole project then I would not recommend going down the root of relying on a villagers friend of a friend to carry out the work. When you are in Cyprus its probably best that you try and find a management company, I know how budgets can spiral out of control but at least you can rely on someone to manage the whole process who can instruct reputable builders etc...to undertake the work. They can meet with you, you can set budgets, go over plans etc. I have some contacts in the industry so I'll post you some details shortly, hope it will help you.
